Bo’s First Hunt:
The year is 2002 Bo is only 11. The day started out like any normal day on
The Thomas Ranch. We actually went out to do a little branding at the old wooden corrals. With no chutes we have to move them in and corner the calves and physically throw the calves. When the calves started getting a little perturbed we decided to throw the kids out of the corrals. Casey and Russell continued to do the
Branding.
While Casey and Russell continued rolling on, Bo decided to grab his bow and head out on a hike.
Wouldn’t you know a Notorious Arizona Field Rat caught Bo’s eye. He stalked the Rat to a bush. At this point Russell who was holding down a calf for Casey to brand noticed what he was doing. Once they finished the calf, they took a break and walked out to watch Bo.
He (Bo) notched an arrow to his bow and took aim. He seemed to hold it back for quite some time. The arrow flew into the dirt. He looked around the bush and grabbed for another arrow, notching it with one smooth move.
His draw was more of a sideways movement. His swing in full draw was a piece of art. His arrow flew and you could see an almost hop that he made.
His last arrow was true to the mark. He bent down and picked up his arrow with the Rat still on it. It lay motionless. A gleam glowed across his face. I could tell my grin maybe even wider than his was. I was so proud of him. He did that one all on his own.
Great Job Bo, I can’t wait to show the world your first Deer.
