COWBOY BUZZWORDS
What is a Buzzword?
Ok we have had this page up for some years now and it is time that I do a quick update. So today, 3 January 2008, I was surfing around the Internet on
CowboyCrew and found some new and interesting ads on there front page. Which is changing some of your typical Cowboy Buzzwords that I have had listed here. Some of these ads say, “Western Cowboy, Cowgirl Cowboy, 19th Century Dry Goods, Western Wear Sale, Cowboy (which we all know is a typical Cowboy Buzzword), Cowboy Western Wear, Cowboy Dating, Cowboy Boots at Boot Barn, CowboyCowgirl (seems if you blend two words together they become a new Cowboy Buzzword) Cowboy & Western Boots, Man Cowboy Boot (I would have used Mens or Men’s Cowboy Boot), Western Cowboy, Cowboy Boots On Sale, Wholesale Hats (What happened to Cowboy Hats Wholesale?), Handsome Cowboy, Hand-Lasted Boots, Cowboy Supplies, Equipment Western Clothing, Wholesale Straw (can you buy Straw Wholesale? I buy it directly from the Farmer. Didn’t know there was Wholesale Straw.), Farm Fashion, Deals on Cowboy Clothing, Buckaroo Cowboy (We have all seen that to the right side of this page for years.), Western Cowboy Items, Rawhide Headstalls, Rawhide Music, Western Fort, Top 6 Websites for Cowboy Hats, Cowboy Up® and Cowgirl Up® Merchandise. Now people are starting to use their Initials on everything. For example: SASS®, CMSA®, NCOWS®, NRA®, NAHC®, IRS®, CBS®, NBC®, CC®, well you get the picture. The Cowboy Buzzwords are changing and adapting daily. What will be the newest Cowboy Buzzword for 2008? With the Domain Shootout the way it is working now people are blendin’ words together and making up there own domain names.
Look at that, I just came up with a new Domain Name.
DomainShootOut.com. How long until someone makes this an actual domain name?
A Buzzword is a word or phrase that enters the minds of people when they think of things: i.e.

They are used as marketing tools for business' to help sell a product. They are also search terms on the Internet. Some websites can pop up when you are doing a search and they have nothing to do with the subject at hand due-to the fact that they are using buzzwords to catch the Internet search engine crawlers.
Brand name 'Buzzwords' are usually Trademarked ™, Copyrighted ©, Service Marked "sm", or Registered ® by the company, so be careful not to use someones without giving them credit and recieving permission first.
Lets look at how they are used.
Here is an example; Read this story and catch single words or phrases:
Firmly in the Saddle:
Something is not quite right here. The straw bales do not go with the gray counters of the check-in desk - and it is not just because of the color.
To say nothing of the bulky wooden fences "decorating" the entrances to the airport shops. I wonder how many years the interior decorator got for that? And the people...! Jeans with large, ornate buckles, cowboy boots, country-and-western blouses and long skirts, cowboy hats - all dressed as if they had just stepped out of "Bonanza." I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if "Little Joe" were to come round the corner any minute. Where on earth have I landed? Calgary airport or "Ponderosa"?
"Hey, man! Where you from?" My taxi driver looks at me as if I am from another planet. "You arrived in Calgary today and don't have the faintest idea? Yahoo! It's Stampede time!" he bellows and grins from ear to ear. And then he explains to this ignorant European that tomorrow is the first day of the largest outdoor show in the world: a ten-day festival with rodeos, chuck wagon races, carousels, bingo tents, flag parades, music and dancing, stage shows, tons of steaks, burgers and pancakes, and thousands of gallons of beer and Coke and, and, and...
For many, this is a "Cowboy's Christmas," says the Calgary Herald about the city's tradition-packed super-event (see box). The local daily newspaper dedicated 12 color pages to the upcoming event in its Thursday edition. Over 300,000 visitors are expected for the opening parade alone, which goes through the city center and marks the opening of the 2002 stampede on July 5. It is not just tourists who are drawn to "Stampede Park" in the heart of the city - more than CAN Dollar 819,000 (U.S. Dollar 518,000) in prize money is up for grabs this year for the victorious riders and charioteers, making it one of the largest rodeo show prize funds in the world.
Notice how in this story you can pick out Western Themed words.

Here is another example of it being used to sell Western Apparel:
Western Apparel
When we think of western apparel, the ‘Wild Wild West cowboy image’ is what comes to our mind. Synonymous with it are cowboy boots, cowboy hats, men's and women's jeans, western shirts, western suits, western belts and buckles, western decor and a whole range of western accessories. How can we forget the saddle and tack and other riding apparel that are so intrinsic to western wear? Cotton and leather seems to be the favorite fabrics for western apparel. They have a bold and unique appeal and designs and style, differing to suit the local tastes and traditions. Some have a southwestern flair, others a tribal look, while many have a north woods or a mountain appeal. Animal designs like the horses, bears, moose and turtles, bright colors and mountain designs predominate the western apparel designing. Western apparel also includes a whole range of cool designer wear for that perfect western look for men, women and children. Men’s wardrobe of western apparel includes jeans, pants, slacks, shirts, suits, hats, boots, underwear, belts and buckles. Women western apparel includes ladies jeans, pants, slacks, shirts, suits, hats, boots, belts and buckles. The western apparel tops for women includes sleeve western fashion tops, retro western tops and long sleeve knit tops, short sleeve western fashion tops and short sleeve knit tops. There are also skirts, fleece, leather, outerwear T-shirts and sleepwear. Mountain rocky tops are all-time favorites. Children have a wide range of western apparel such as children's jeans, pants, slacks, shirts, suits, hats, boots, belts and buckles to choose from.

How does that help me?
It really doesn't if you don't build websites, or you don't do a lot of searching. But if you are doing a search putting more of a specific search term in the search engine may help.
For example:
Search for:
Cowboy
56,100,000 for cowboy
Search for:
Cowboy Crew
4,450,000 for cowboy crew
Search for:
Cowboy Crew Club
1,610,000 for cowboy crew club
Search for:
Cowboy Crew Country Club
1,110,000 for cowboy crew country club
Search for:
"Cowboy Crew"
343 for "cowboy crew"
By adding,
"Quotes
" around your search you also make it specific. That will drop your search down to a more manageable list of prospective websites. When you take the time to search for a more specific topic you will get a more defined search result. Try it with, " I Love Cows".
Lets see if you can catch some buzzwords in this next exercise:
Who are the Desert Cowboys?
The
Desert Cowboys are made up of Men and Women in the
United States Military (Active - Reserve - National Guard), DOD Civilians, Law Enforcement Agents, Fire Fighters and
all Veterans (who have been honorably discharged) who have been involved with the fight of Terrorism, since
9-11.
They are (or have been already) over in the
Desert to tame the Middle East (
Desert Storm - Operation Iraqi Freedom - 9-11). Some are heading out for their first time, some are on there second, third, forth and even fifth rotations. Filled with
American Pride these
American Cowboys have left their Ranches, Farms and homesteads to protect the rest of
America against all enemies
Foreign and Domestic. Just like
Cowboy Legends of yesteryear these
Famous Cowboys - Famous Cowgirls will go down in history as some of the greatest
Patriots that
America has ever had through out her history.
Just like the
Cowboys of the olden days who had a mission of taming the
Wild-Wild-West, it took the
Cowboy to ride out on his horse to bring law and order to a desolate land. The new
Urban Cowboy warfare that has been called for during this fight on Terrorism will show that the
American Cowboys are as adaptive and resourceful today as he was in the 1800s.
American Cowboy Pride is alive today in these Men and Women.
For centuries we have heard "Peace in the Middle East". Now that
America has answered this call not everyone is pleased that we have. Well all of these young Men and Women are proud to do their
Patriotic Duty and fulfill their obligations to serve during this time of crisis.
The
Desert Cowboys have a mission to tame the wild lands of the Middle East instead of the west and will do it with pride. These
Military Cowboys, American Patriots, who have decided to lay their lives in harms way so that all
Americans can sleep peaceful at night and go about their daily business. If you are going about your 9-5 job, sitting at home surfing the net, checking your email, eating dinner, cleaning the house it would be thanks to the many men and woman who are at this very moment pulling guard duty, conducting raids, securing weapons caches and are deployed thousands of miles away from there own families.
As you can see we

10 steps toward positive accountability
Here are 10 suggestions to help you hold your supervisors and managers accountable for improving their performance after training. While all of these ideas have been used successfully, this is not a formula or a checklist to be adopted in its entirety. Rather, it is a menu from which you can select ideas and adapt them to fit your organization.
#1 - Administer short (10 question) tests prior to and after each training session. Give participants feedback about how their scores improved both individually and as a group.
#2 - Have participants develop written individual action plans for each training session that clearly define one or two specific skills the participant will focus on improving. A copy is sent to the participant's supervisor and to human resources for inclusion in the participant's file.
#3 - Schedule at least two five-to-10 minute follow-up discussions - one every two weeks or so - between participants and their managers to discuss their individual action plans.
#4 - Mail short written and audiotape reminders to participants about key issues covered in the training. Mail these every two weeks for a two-month period. (Avoid using e-mail because the messages can get lost in the crush of daily e-mail traffic.)
#5 - Schedule short telephone calls from the trainer to participants to discuss individual action plans, key issues, etc. from the training.
#6 - Include individual action plans in annual goal-setting and performance evaluations.
#7 - Give credits for performance improvement. Credits are accumulated and formal recognition is given at designated levels of credits.
#8 - Provide several awards (such as certificates, lapel pins, paid time off, bonuses, etc.) over a six-month period for continuing success with individual action plans.
#9 - Certify participants as trainers who can lead future training sessions on specific topics.
#10 - Reward participants with eligibility for further training, involvement in important projects, and possible promotion based on their accomplishment of training goals.
Answers:
Administer, Training, Participants, Feedback, Group, Develop, Action, Improved, Focus, Supervisor, Schedule, Discussions, Reminders, Mail, Telephone calls, Goal-setting, Credits, Awards, Success, Future, Reward, Involment, Promotion, Accomplishment, and Goals.
